SWF Executive Director Michael Simpson. Washington Office Director Victoria Samson, Technical Advisor Brian Weeden, Project Manager Laura Delgado López, and Project Manager Christopher D. Johnson all contributed to a peer-reviewed article published in the July-December issue of the journal OASIS. OASIS is the acronym for the "Observatorio de Análisis de los Sistemas Internacionales," an international relations research group of the Externado University of Colombia.

The article includes an overview of the concept of space sustainability, a discussion of the need, development, and current status of the long-term sustainability guidelines within the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS), as well as an analysis of some of the guidelines themselves and how they relate to other current space sustainability initiatives. It concludes with a broader discussion of space as an area without state sovereignty – one of the key aspects that have influenced the development of non-binding measures to address the space sustainability challenge.
