Announcing the Space Security Portal

Wednesday, August 23, 2023

Space policies and doctrines are evolving rapidly as more States articulate their perspectives and approaches to addressing space security.  Accordingly, Secure World Foundation and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) are delighted to announce the release of their jointly developed Space Security Portal, available here:

The Space Security Portal is an interactive map of the global space security governance landscape. It provides profiles of the space security-related policies of all UN Member States, in addition to various intergovernmental organizations and multistakeholder initiatives. This tool seeks to support informed participation by relevant stakeholders in all negotiation processes on space security and to promote transparency, information sharing, confidence, and capacity building in outer space governance. The scope of the Portal is focused on space security-related issues and is not meant to be an exhaustive depository of the global space governance landscape. Further information on international space activity, especially as related to space safety, can be found in the work of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

The Space Security Portal is a dynamic tool that seeks to stay current and encourages ongoing collaboration with States, Intergovernmental Organizations, and other stakeholders. To submit information requests to the Portal, please email

The Space Security Portal is part of a new toolkit developed between UNIDIR and the Secure World Foundation, which includes the new Lexicon for Outer Space Security.
