SWF Fosters Discussions on Military Space Norms and Space Threats with Young Professionals
Sunday, April 3, 2022
SWF was pleased to once again be able to support the Space Generation Advisory Committee’s (SGAC) Fusion Forum 2022, held annually in conjunction with the Spacer Symposium in Colorado Springs, CO. The Fusion Forum brings together exemplary young professionals in space from around the world to meet and interact with experts from all sectors of space.
For 2022, SWF sponsored a Fusion Forum breakout session on space threats. SWF Director of Program Planning Dr. Brian Weeden provided the young professionals participating in the breakout session with background information on space threats and current multilateral efforts to address them, and helped the participants develop recommendations from the next generation perspective.
In addition, Dr Weeden also moderated a panel discussion on “Establishing the Rules of the Road: The Role of Defence in Securing Sustainable Space Access” that featured top military space leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. The panel discussed why norms were important to national security space efforts, how space norms compared to air and maritime domains, and how their countries were creating military space structures and policies to address space threats.
