Wednesday, September 16, 2020

In the final installment of the “Serving Society with Space Data,” the session focused on how data derived from space technology can contribute to monitoring projects across all the Sustainable Development Goals as well as how satellite information is being used to track the global indicator framework for the SDGs.

Speakers included Hansdeep Khaira, an Evaluation Officer in the Independent Office of Evaluation (IOE) of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Dr. Argyro Kavvada from Applied Sciences Program in NASA’s Earth Science Division, and Dr. Diego Silva Ardila, an economist and historian from Universidad de Los Andes. Some speakers highlighted projects that have incorporated Earth observation data to report and track project progress while other panelists spoke to how countries are using this data to monitor their progress on the goals overall.  Dr. Minoo Rathnasabapathy, a Research Engineer within the Space Enabled Research Group at the MIT Media Lab, moderated this event.
