As long-term sponsors of the Space Generation Advisory Council, SWF served as a partner for the inaugural for SpaceGen United, SGAC’s first online Congress. Executive Director Peter Martinez delivered a keynote presentation on Tuesday, July 21 entitled “Challenges to ensuring the sustainability of outer space activities in support of sustainability.” In addition, Project Manager Josh Wolny, Mr. Christensen, and Space Law Advisor Chris Johnson served as subject matter experts for a virtual UN COPUOS Simulation on lunar resource use. The aim of the session was for the delegates to act as government representatives to create a draft treaty for In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) on the Moon based on draft texts submitted by two countries. Delegates were unable to come to a consensus treaty draft, simulating real multilateral negotiations quite well, but they did produce a summary video about the process and outcomes.
