SWF Participated in First United Nations Conference on Space Law and Policy in Moscow

SWF Space Law Advisor Chris Johnson participated in the First United Nations Conference on Space Law and Policy, co-organized by the Russian Government, and hosted by Roscosmos, in Moscow, Russia, September 11-13, 2018. The conference explored a number of themes, including promoting responsible, peaceful and safe use of outer space; challenges and threats to the safety of space operations; security and the long-term sustainability of outer space activities, and ways and means of maintaining outer space for peaceful purposes.

Mr. Johnson spoke about the duty of due regard in Article IX of the Outer Space Treaty, and its relevance for space traffic management issues, along with the strengths and shortcomings of new international treaty-making and national regulations to address these issues.
