SWF Provides Expertise for the 2018 ISU Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program

SWF Executive Director Michael Simpson and SWF Space Law Advisor Chris Johnson served as experts at the 2018 International Space University (ISU) Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program (SHSSP) in Mawson Lakes, Adelaide, Australia.

This year’s SHSSP featured two Team Projects. One team, featuring the recipient of the Ray Williamson Future Fund Award, Isidora Casas Del Valle, focused on disaster management and the role of space assets and space capabilities in mitigating and addressing natural disasters. Their mission statement was to “identify and enhance the use of current and emerging space-based PNT technologies and services in developing nations’ disaster management systems.” Their final presentation can be viewed here.

The other SHSSP Team Project focused on new space agencies. Their mission statement was to conduct an “international comparison and analysis of space agencies to provide recommendations for the benefit of emerging space states.” Their final presentation can be viewed here.
