Given the rapid increase of space activities in Asia and the
increasing importance of space in the lives of Asia citizens, many
States in the region are building or refining their national space
policies and laws. This is a crucial time for the region as it
builds its legal and policy frameworks which are needed to support
long-term sustainability and use of space for Asia and the
international community in general.
In May 2011, Secure World Foundation and the China Academy of
Sciences organised a small workshop on the topic of "Space
Policies and Laws in Asia". This workshop brought together a number
of high regional and international experts to examine the history,
current state affairs and future of Asian space policy and space
cooperation at the national and regional level.
