SWF Says Goodbye to Washington, DC Administrative Assistant

On August 31, 2015, Ms. Melissa Pasos officially concluded her tenure at SWF.  Ms. Pasos has contributed a great deal to the operations at SWF, especially as the primary point of administrative contact for the Washington, DC office. Ms. Pasos leaves to persue a full time position at Internews Network.  We wish her nothing but continued success as she moves forward in her next chapter.

SWF DC Office Seeking Administrative Assistant

The Washington, DC office for SWF is accepting resumes for the current opening.  Applicants are encouraged to apply soon, as the deadline for acceptance is September 4, 2015. Annual Staff and Advisory Committee Meeting

SWF Advisory Committee members met in Boulder, Colorado for the annual Advisory Committee Meeting. This year saw Richard Tremayne-Smith and Kazuto Suzuki stepping down from the Committee after providing years of guidance, perspective, and insight as we defined our mission and established our operation. SWF would like to thank them for their dedicated service and wish them well in all future endeavors. We also wish to offer our thanks to the returning Committee members for their ongoing participation and support. SWF Hosts Second Panel on Disaster Risk Management

In concert with the annual Staff and Advisory Committee meeting, this year SWF hosted an open panel on disaster risk management at the Hotel Boulderado in Boulder, Colorado. “From Response to Resilience: Space and Disaster Risk Management," was the second SWF event on this theme as part of an ongoing effort to promote communication and exchange of best practices across the full spectrum of disaster management activities and the role of space-based assets in this effort.

SWF Co-Hosts Two-day Conference on Space Security

During the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) Conference this year in Geneva, Switzerland, SWF collaborated with The Simons Foundation to host the invitation-only event. Over the two-day period, discussions were held on national approches to space security, military and civilian uses of shared space, and  legal and diplomatic aspects of space security. SWF Project Manager Laura Delgado López Participates in GeoBuiz Summit Pre-Conference

Ms. Delgado López participated in the Geospatial Agencies and Industry Exchange Forum, an invitation-only GeoBuiz pre-conference session. Speaking during the session on the "Impact of Geospatial Agency Information and Services," Ms. Delgado López presented on the insights gained through SWF's Human and Environmental Security initative related to persisting challenges surrounding geospatial information access, particularly in the context of disaster risk management.

Ms. Laura Delgado López Featured in GeoBuiz Exclusive

While participating in the Geospatial World Forum last May, Ms. Delgado López was interviewed by Kevin Pomfret, executive director of the Centre for Spatial Law and Policy for the GeoBuiz channel. The interview focused on the content of her presentation at the Geospatial Policies session, moderated by Pomfret, in which she talked about the policy issues related to the possibility of using commercial small satellites in operational roles and the questions stakeholders are grappling with to realize their potential.
